Birmingham Weekend

This weekend we decided last minute to take a trip.....any trip!!!

I started out planning for the beach, but after much discussion of how little time would be spent on the sand and how much time would be spent in the car, "we" decided against it and by "we" I mean Brad....and although I'm repulsed to say it....."he was right"!! There just wasn't enough time for a beach trip... 12 hours round trip in a car for 12 hours on the beach...it just doesn't equal out!! So, we discussed driving to Nashville to visit their Children's Museum, Zoo, and water park, but again, over 8 hours in the car round trip didn't seem too appealing. We finally agreed on Birmingham...and 2 1/2 hours later we were enjoying ourselves beyond imaginable belief at the McWane Science Center. Mallory had a blast trying to figure everything out and McCain had fun learning and playing on the exhibits geared towards the little ones while Brad had fun "teaching" his young all about science!! The center had a new exhibit "The Touch Tank", and although we actually didn't get to "touch" anything it was fun for the kids to see some sea life.

After 5 full hours at the museum (which the lady on the phone said would probably only take 2 hours!) we made our way to Aunt Stephie's house where Uncle Chris grilled his famous burgers and the kiddos got a chance to get all the attention!!!

Sunday morning we took a car-tour of our old stomping grounds and after a quick bite to eat headed over to the Vulcan.

When Brad and I lived in B'ham they were in the process of dismantling him to do repairs so we never got to see him mounted on his perch much less ride the elevator to the observation deck. The view of Birmingham from the top is pretty amazing!

The kids got to participate in a scavanger hunt which is always exciting. And hopefully it was not a fluke so knock on wood....the kids actually worked really well on this "hunt" together!!!

All and all our beach trip turned out pretty well if I do say so myself!!! Only 5 hours total in the car and many new memories!!!
